Two-thirds of the survey respondents are female—the same male-to-female ratio as last year. Women lag their male counterparts in annual salary by an average of $2,800, or a 4.2% difference. However, this gap has closed over the past three years and is very close to a statistically insignificant difference.

For comparison, in the 2001 Society for Technical Communication Salary Survey, men receive 2.6% more than women.
