eLearning Tools and Techniques

eLearning Guild logoWritersUA has joined with the eLearning Guild to present a special collection of speakers and topics representing the best in eLearning information. The following sessions provide detailed information about helpful tools and effective techniques.

DITA, XML, and Information Architecture

The Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA) has become an important format for authoring and distributing technical information. The concept of working from a single content source and repackaging the information for multiple output targets has become an attractive solution. These sessions highlight how DITA, XML, and information architecture enable a much more consistent and economical production environment.

UA for Mobile Devices

The tremedous growth in mobile devices has opened a new and exciting frontier for user assistance development. The iPhone app market alone has over 100,000 applications. Many of these apps are full-featured and have needs similar to more traditional applications. These sessions provide an inside look at how to get involved with mobile UA development.

User-centered Design and Usability

Vital to the development of effective information is the design of user interaction with that information. These sessions highlight the application of user-centered design and usability to the software user assistance.

Adobe, Microsoft, and Google

Certain organizations in the IT industry have a significant impact on our work because of their market share and sheer amount of resources. The following sessions look at offerings from Adobe, Microsoft, and Google and provide some guidance as to how they might affect software user assistance professionals.

Case Studies

An invaluable source of practical knowledge can be found in the work of our colleagues. The following case studies highlight the implementation of important new techniques and technologies in actual software development projects.

Hands-on Computer Tutorials

These sessions are designed to provide you with a step-by-step, hands-on computer instruction in a variety of topic areas. Computers are not provided. You must bring your own laptop. Seating will be limited and offered on a first-come, first-seated basis.

The sessions are 120 minutes in length with a break half-way through. Preliminary organizational instructions will only be provided at the beginning of the first half of the session. Sample files will be provided prior to the conference on our conference web site. Additional details will be provided prior to the conference.
