Leuven, Belgium - November 28, 2008 - 4.ST HelpServer announces the release of HelpServer 4.6.

Even in today's economic climate, Enterprises find themselves forced to support a multitude of expensive systems for documentation management, knowledge management, content management, and online user assistance. This is obviously not the right approach.

HelpServer is an all-inclusive Multi-Authoring Rich Internet Application (RIA) to create, manage, edit, publish & offer Dynamic Online Content (= documentation, web-based help and all kinds of enterprise content). The main advantage is that geographically dispersed authoring teams can work together on one database (which holds content-topics, files, documentation and help-topics) and only have to focus on creating quality content which can easily be reused. Editing content is even possible by using only a browser, which means that editing content or uploading files is possible from any computer anywhere in the world (without having to install client software).

Another major advantage is that HelpServer is equipped with intelligent server-side scripting which enables you to deliver dynamic personalized HTML & PDF on the spot by picking up settings from a visitor's profile (e.g. language, products bought ...). Because HelpServer is based on server-side technology it can interpret URL's containing parameters provided by your developers. This means that you no longer have to distribute all your help files together with your software, which will reduce your distribution time and time to market considerably.

What is new in HelpServer 4.6?

HelpServer Project Galleries - hold all the files (images, video ... and application files) used throughout your projects. A project can be created from any container level (=folder, book etc ...) down and can be shared across different projects. Administrators or authorized authors (security rules can be defined within HelpServer) are able to upload all the images/files in batch to a Project Gallery just by dragging and dropping from Windows Explorer into HelpServer. Afterwards authors can use and reuse all these files within topics by picking them from the project gallery. When files in the gallery are updated or changed then this will be immediately active in all the topics where they are used.

An Improved unobtrusive XML built in text-editor. The HelpServer editor's standard formatting features work like those known from typical text-processors making use of editor styles (paragraph and character styles) that have been put together by the admin-team and/or authorized authors. When editing topics in the HelpServer text-editor authors do not need to bother about tables of contents, CSS styles are picked-up automatically, and authors are able to tag particular content to be shown or not in any particular output type. In fact authors are creating xml without having to know the technical in's and out's about XML editing.

Tables of contents in PDF's are automatically generated on the server-side when a visitor wants to print a whole folder or a book. This server-side dynamic PDF generation has the advantage that a visitor can dynamically print from any requested level down, it also makes the job of authors more easy since they do not need to generate new PDF files when content has changed, they only need to publish the new or changed content to make it available to the public.
